PM-SETU Initiative Aims to Modernise 1,000 Government ITIs Across India

New Delhi, Jan 17: The PM-SETU initiative, launched to modernize 1,000 government ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) across India, employs a hub-and-spoke model featuring 200 hub ITIs with enhanced infrastructures and 800 spoke ITIs to extend training reach.

Announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this initiative is aligned with the Viksit Bharat vision to cultivate a future-ready and globally competitive workforce.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will facilitate a significant industry consultation in Pune to engage over 50 companies from various sectors such as construction, textiles, automotive, FMCG, electronics, oil and gas, and renewable energy.

The program repositions ITIs as government-owned yet industry-managed entities, which promotes demand-driven training, effective apprenticeships, and improved placement linkages through partnerships with major industry players.

This consultation aims to encourage continuous industry engagement in shaping the skilling ecosystem, with MoUs being signed to formalize collaborations focused on enhancing vocational training outcomes.

The initiative allows industry partners to directly influence governance, adapt training to labor market requirements, improve curriculum and teaching methods, enhance faculty skills, and boost apprenticeships and job placements.
