PM Modi’s UAE Visit Aims to Strengthen Energy Security Ties

PM Modi to Hold Crucial Energy, Trade Talks During UAE Visit Today

New Delhi, May 14: Energy security is set to dominate the agenda as Narendra Modi begins a multi-nation diplomatic tour, with crucial agreements expected during his visit to the United Arab Emirates.

According to official sources, India and the UAE are likely to sign two key memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply and strategic petroleum reserves. These agreements are aimed at strengthening India’s long-term energy resilience amid global supply uncertainties.

Discussions are also underway on developing alternative energy transit routes that bypass the Strait of Hormuz—a move intended to safeguard stable hydrocarbon flows from the Gulf region and reduce geopolitical risk exposure.

During the UAE leg, Modi will meet President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to advance bilateral cooperation, with energy ties expected to remain central alongside regional and global strategic issues.

The UAE visit marks the first stop of Modi’s six-day, five-nation tour spanning Europe. He will subsequently travel to the Netherlands, where he is scheduled to meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, and hold talks with Prime Minister Rob Jetten to deepen bilateral engagement.

In Sweden, Modi will hold discussions with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, focusing on expanding cooperation across high-growth sectors such as green transition, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, startups, and resilient supply chains.

The leaders will also participate in the European Round Table for Industry alongside Ursula von der Leyen, highlighting India’s increasing engagement with European business ecosystems.

The fourth leg includes participation in the India-Nordic Summit in Norway, aimed at enhancing collaboration in innovation, renewable energy, sustainability, defence, and Arctic policy.

Modi’s final stop will be Italy, where he will meet President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, in addition to visiting the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Overall, the tour underscores India’s dual strategic focus on securing critical energy supplies while expanding economic and technological partnerships across Europe.
