New Delhi, Feb 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday positioned India as an emerging “natural hub” for Artificial Intelligence (AI), underpinned by a strong digital public infrastructure, secure technology frameworks, and a rapidly expanding startup ecosystem.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit, the Prime Minister outlined India’s growing technological depth across strategic sectors, including semiconductors, chip manufacturing, and quantum computing. He noted that investments in secure data centres and a robust IT backbone are strengthening the country’s capacity to develop and deploy scalable AI solutions.
According to the Prime Minister, India’s structural advantages — diversity, demographic scale, and democratic governance — provide a unique testing ground for AI innovation with global applicability. He emphasised that AI models successfully deployed in India have the potential to scale internationally, reinforcing the government’s “Design and Develop in India, Deliver to the World” strategy.
PM Modi also stressed the need for a human-centric approach to AI development, advocating systems that are accountable, inclusive, and aligned with societal values. Referring to the summit’s theme, Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya (Welfare for All, Happiness for All), he framed India’s AI vision around equitable growth and broad-based societal benefit.
