PM Modi praises its role in maritime security, disaster response, coastal livelihoods, protecting seas, and India’s blue economy.
New Delhi, Feb 01 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings to Indian Coast Guard personnel on the force’s 50th Raising Day, praising their role in safeguarding India’s maritime borders and supporting coastal livelihoods.
Established on February 1, 1977, the Indian Coast Guard is responsible for maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, and protecting India’s territorial waters, contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.
In his message, Modi said the Coast Guard has served as a “vigilant protector” of India’s maritime interests for five decades, playing a key role in maritime security, disaster response, anti-smuggling operations and marine environmental protection.
“Their work not only secures our borders but also sustains the lives and livelihoods of communities that depend on the sea,” the Prime Minister said.
He also highlighted the force’s contribution to environmental protection through cleanliness and conservation initiatives, aligning with the government’s vision of sustainable and clean coastlines.
Looking ahead, Modi said the Coast Guard’s role will become increasingly important as India advances towards a Viksit Bharat, with the growing significance of the blue economy, rising maritime trade and climate-related challenges.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes to Coast Guard personnel, expressing confidence that their dedication will continue to strengthen India’s maritime security and prosperity.
