Lifeline for Flood-Affected Communities

Speaking at the inauguration, Derhasat Basumatary appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon for introducing an innovative healthcare solution tailored to the needs of flood-prone regions.

He noted that the boat ambulances would significantly improve access to timely medical care, particularly for pregnant women, children, senior citizens and emergency patients, who often face difficulties reaching healthcare facilities during the monsoon season.

The initiative is expected to bridge a critical healthcare gap by ensuring uninterrupted medical assistance even during prolonged flooding.

Strengthening Public Healthcare Delivery

Addressing the gathering, Moon Moon Brahma highlighted the importance of collaboration between public institutions and corporate organizations in improving the quality of life of rural communities.

She commended NTPC Bongaigaon’s continued commitment to community development and its contribution to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Nilu Brahma, Director of Health Services, BTC, stated that the boat ambulances would function as mobile healthcare units, carrying medicines, medical equipment and trained healthcare workers to remote villages that remain isolated during floods.

He explained that the services would support routine immunisation programmes, maternal and child healthcare, treatment of common illnesses and emergency medical response, thereby strengthening the public health delivery system in inaccessible locations.

NTPC’s Commitment to Community Welfare

Officials of NTPC Bongaigaon reiterated that healthcare remains one of the company’s key CSR focus areas. They emphasized that the boat ambulance project demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring that geographical challenges do not deprive vulnerable communities of essential healthcare services.

The floating ambulances are expected to serve as a vital healthcare lifeline throughout the year, particularly during flood emergencies, while also supporting routine medical outreach activities.

Over the years, NTPC Bongaigaon has implemented several impactful CSR initiatives across healthcare, including cancer screening programmes, medical infrastructure development, health camps and support for healthcare institutions.

The launch of the three boat ambulances adds another significant milestone to the company’s efforts to create sustainable social impact and improve healthcare outcomes for people living in some of the most remote and disaster-prone regions of Assam.

Conclusion

NTPC Bongaigaon’s launch of three boat ambulances represents an innovative CSR initiative that combines healthcare accessibility with disaster resilience. By bringing emergency medical services directly to flood-prone riverine communities, the project will strengthen healthcare delivery, improve emergency response and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
