Mumbai, Jan 28: Maharashtra has declared a three-day state mourning following the tragic death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who perished in a plane crash near Baramati along with five others.
The chartered flight from Mumbai crash-landed and burst into flames during its landing attempt. As part of the mourning, all official buildings will fly the Tricolour at half-mast, and entertainment programs will be canceled.
A state funeral will be organized for Pawar, a prominent figure known for his grassroots connection and contribution to Maharashtra’s development. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over Pawar’s loss, highlighting his leadership qualities and strong support among the public.
Fadnavis, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will visit Pawar’s family to arrange for the last rites, which coincide with a public holiday declared in honor of the late leader.
This incident represents a significant loss to Maharashtra’s political scene and has cast a shadow of mourning over the state.
