The exhibition “The Written Heritage of India: the Written Art of Indo-Islamic Calligraphy” opened at the “Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment” in the city of Navoi, organized in cooperation with the khokimiyat of the Navoi region, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Indian Cultural Center and the regional branch of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.
As part of the opening ceremony, the acting khokim of the Navoi region, Normat Tursunov, received the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, Mr. Prabhat Manish, and the director of the Indian Cultural Center named after Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent, Mr. Chander Shekhar.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the region, Normat Tursunov, informed the guests about the economic and investment opportunities of the region, noting that there are all grounds for further development of cooperation in the field of trade, economy, education, culture and healthcare.
In turn, the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, Mr. Prabhat Manish, expressed interest in expanding cooperation between the two countries, including organizing joint projects to train students of higher educational institutions, exchange personnel in the field of education and medicine, develop tourism potential and attract investors.
It was noted that the exhibition will serve the further development of cultural ties between Uzbekistan and India.
– India is famous for its rich cultural heritage and fine arts, – said the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan, Mr. Prabhat Manish. – The promotion of works of culture and art underline the strong ties between the Uzbek and Indian peoples.
With the help of this exhibition, we wanted not only to demonstrate the beauty and sophistication of the art of beautiful writing, but also to show the historical connection between the two countries from a cultural perspective. India has a strong school of calligraphy, which has its own characteristics, due to the development of the country. This is my first visit to Navoi region.
At the meetings, getting acquainted with the folk arts and crafts of Uzbekistan, I saw the similarity and closeness of the arts. Therefore, when choosing exhibits, we focused on the work of artists from Uzbekistan.
The exhibition presents samples of calligraphy by famous calligraphers of the Herat school of arts of the 15th-19th centuries, which differs from other schools in its elegance and subtlety of writing. Almost all of the samples of calligraphy presented were widely used in writing verses of the Koran: kufic, ours, suls, nastaliq, shikasta, talik and others.
Then the guests participated in the opening ceremony of the Indian Training Center at the Navoi State Pedagogical Institute and the exhibition of works in the “Self-portrait” genre, organized in the building of the Art Gallery of Navoi city.
The exhibition “The Written Heritage of India: The Written Art of Indo-Islamic Calligraphy” will run until 7 April.
