India’s Upstream Sector Undergoes Major Shift After Reforms: Hardeep Puri

OPEC+ Plans Oil Production Increase for May to Stabilise Global Markets

New Delhi, Jan 22: Recent reforms in India’s upstream sector have been characterized as a significant transformation by the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.

These reforms, along with data-driven exploration initiatives, have opened up investment opportunities in offshore and frontier areas. Puri emphasized the government’s aim to create a stable and transparent investment climate, fostering participation from domestic and international stakeholders.

As exploration activities increase, capital requirements will also rise, highlighting the need for financing structures that align with the specific risks of upstream projects.

The Secretary of MoPNG, Neeraj Mittal, noted the importance of timely capital availability and collaboration among policymakers, operators, and financiers. Industry participants have responded positively, with a focus on implementing policies effectively to yield concrete results.
