India’s Renewable Energy Share Expected to Cross 35% in Power Mix by 2030

India Must Move from Solar Capacity Build-Out to System-Wide Transformation, Says Report

New Delhi, Nov 21: The share of India’s electricity generation from renewable energy is projected to exceed 35% by FY30, up from 22.1% in FY25, with an additional 200 GW capacity expected.

This growth is contingent on the effective implementation of ongoing projects, infrastructure development, and timely contract signings.

Despite a stable outlook supported by strong policies and demand from large customers, challenges include delays in power purchase agreements (PPAs) and infrastructure issues. As battery storage becomes critical for grid stability, the government is promoting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with over 20 GWh awarded since April 2024.

Although BESS costs are still high, ongoing reductions in battery prices may enhance their competitiveness and adoption.
