New Delhi, May 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary and former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Monday said bioenergy and green hydrogen will remain key priorities for the Centre as India strengthens energy security and economic resilience amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026, Das said India’s resilience continues to be anchored in macroeconomic stability, noting that the government’s fiscal position and the banking system remain robust despite global uncertainties.
He emphasised that corporate balance sheets are now in a stronger position to support fresh investments, while reiterating the government’s continued commitment to reforms.
However, Das cautioned that escalating tensions involving the United States and Iran, along with supply disruptions, are likely to keep global costs elevated and impact economies worldwide.
His remarks came a day after Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to adopt measures aimed at cushioning the economy from the ongoing West Asia crisis. These included working from home where possible, avoiding non-essential gold purchases and refraining from foreign travel for a year.
The Prime Minister also appealed for reduced consumption of cooking oil, foreign-made products and chemical fertilisers, as part of efforts to conserve foreign exchange reserves and limit pressure on fuel imports amid volatile energy markets.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured that the government is taking concrete steps to minimise the impact of geopolitical developments. He chaired the fifth meeting of the Informal Empowered Group of Ministers to review risks to energy supply chains and assess domestic availability of essential commodities.
