India-Honduras Explore Stronger Ties in Culture, Arts and Yoga

Tegucigalpa, May 12: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita held talks with Yasser Handal Carcamo, Secretary of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Honduras, to deepen cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as arts, yoga, wellness, cinema and broader cultural exchanges. The engagement forms part of Margherita’s official visit to Honduras, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations following the formation of a new government in January 2026.

The visit marks the first ministerial-level trip from India to Honduras after the recent elections, underlining renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Prior to Honduras, Margherita visited Costa Rica, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Laura Fernandez and held a series of high-level meetings.

In Costa Rica, he met Science and Technology Minister Paula Bogantes Zamora to explore avenues for cooperation in innovation, capacity building and support for Indian businesses. He also held talks with Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and shared commitments to multilateralism and a rules-based international order.

The minister also engaged with the Indian community in Costa Rica, highlighting the role of the diaspora in strengthening India’s global presence.

During his visit, Margherita inaugurated the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ Wall at the University for Peace in San Jose, symbolising India’s philosophy of global unity, and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, emphasising his message of peace and non-violence.

He also participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative by planting a sapling, reinforcing India’s commitment to environmental sustainability and global ecological responsibility.
