New Delhi, Dec 31: India successfully conducted a test of the Pralay missile, launching two missiles in quick succession from the Odisha coast as part of user evaluation trials.
The test, executed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) at approximately 10:30 am, demonstrated that both missiles followed their intended trajectories and met all flight objectives, as verified by tracking sensors from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. Senior DRDO scientists, Indian Air Force and Army officials, as well as representatives from industry partners witnessed the launch.
The Pralay missile is a surface-to-surface, short-range ballistic missile with a strike range between 150 km and 500 km and is capable of carrying a variety of warheads. It features indigenously developed solid propellant and utilizes advanced guidance and navigation systems for high precision. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the teams involved in the project for the successful test-launch, noting it established the missile’s reliability.
The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat in conjunction with various DRDO labs and production partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited. DRDO chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat acknowledged the successful flight tests, indicating that the system is nearing readiness for induction with operational users.
