New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS): New Delhi’s government has introduced a new Aadhaar mobile app aimed at streamlining identity verification to make it faster, safer, and more user-friendly.
This app enables users to present their Aadhaar details without the need for physical cards or photocopies, facilitating quick identity checks at locations like airports, hotels, and hospitals. Key features include QR code-based offline verification for hotel check-ins, optional face verification, and age verification for movie tickets.
The app, designed for ease across various users, supports multiple real-life applications such as hospital admissions and gig worker verification. Users can control their biometric data, manage up to five Aadhaar profiles under a “One Family–One App” model, and update their registered mobile numbers, minimizing the necessity for in-person visits for minor updates.
Moreover, the government assures that Aadhaar numbers will not be stored by verifying agencies, promoting data privacy under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. Developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and launched by Minister Jitin Prasada, the app emphasizes data minimization and the selective sharing of information through customized QR codes generated according to specific use cases, marking a significant advancement towards a more paperless system.
