Budget 2026–27 Unveils ₹10,000 Crore Growth Fund to Boost SMEs

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS): Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are pivotal to India’s economy, contributing approximately 35.4% of manufacturing, 48.58% of exports, and 31.1% of GDP, according to the Economic Survey 2025-26.

The Self-Reliant India (SRI) Fund, established with a capital of Rs 50,000 crore, has invested Rs 15,442 crore in 682 MSMEs as of November 30, 2025. With over 7.47 crore MSMEs employing 32.82 crore individuals, this sector is the second-largest employer in India.

The report notes a recent rise in MSME credit, primarily driven by government efforts, outpacing credit growth for large industries. Additionally, the MSME sector’s role in enhancing supply-chain participation and local value addition is critical for integrating India’s manufacturing with global markets.

The survey highlights that MSMEs constitute around 90% of businesses worldwide, reflecting their significant impact on global employment.
