The concluding day of Vigilance Awareness Week 2015 was celebrated in a grand manner at Neyveli on 31/10/2015, wherein Shri.R. Sri Kumar, Former Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigillance Commision, Govermnent of India graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Shri .R. Sri Kumar, in his Chief Guest address, insisted that it is time for every individual to be vigilant and act accordingly and not be spectator when some crime is taking place by quoting Napoléon statement “ The silence of good men is more dangerous than the crime of a bad men” .
He informed that Government of India enforced a new whistle Blowers Law from 2014 where it provides security and strength to the whistle blowers to raise their voice against corruption Practices in the society without any fear of threat.
He also informed that a new Project VIGEYE (VIGilance EYE) is a citizen-centric initiative, wherein citizens join hands with the Central Vigilance Commission and send direct complaints, “Mobile recordings, videos or sound tapes can be forwarded to the CVC on mobile phone number 9223174440,” he added. The CBSE kit launched by the Central Vigilance commission may be modified for the school children to inculcate ethical values.
He congratulated NLC management and chief vigilance officer for introducing various technology based initiatives to enable more transparency in their daily activities and it can encourage public participation to check corruption.
Release of Annual report ‘e’ Book on the various activities of NLC’s Vigilance Department was carried out during 2014-15 by Shri S. Boopathy, Director (Planning & Projects) , who was the President of the function and “ Bill Tracking System” an IT based initiative was launched by Shri.R.Srikumar to mark the occasion. In his presidential address, Shri. S.Boopathy, Dir.( Planning and Projects), stated that, vigilance should start from home as corruption also starts from home.
During this Week long Celebrations of Vigilance Awareness Week 2015, NLC had organized various programmes with the theme” Preventive Vigilance as a tool of Good Governance” involving students in Madurai and Chennai and including various schools, colleges apart from various units for creating awareness among the employees and their family members highlighting evils of corruption and its impact on our society.
NLC sponsored two programmes which were telecasted in Doordharshan- Pothigai Channel, a Debate on this year’s theme , involving college students from Chennai , telecasted on 27/10/2015 (between 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm) and a Panel Discussion, “Velicham” telecasted on 31/10/2015 between 7:30 and 8:00 pm. Eminent personalities like Padma Bhushan Shri. N. Vittal, IAS (Retd) Central Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission, Shri.R. Sri Kumar, Former Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission, have interacted with the Loyola College and Anna university Students respectively at Chennai and the programmes were well received by the student community.
Subir Das, Director (Mines) Shri V. Thangapandian, Director (Power), felicitated and Shri Shivaraj Singh, IFS, Chief Vigilance Officer addressed on this occasion . All the senior officers, students and public were present in the above function.
P. Ravi Chandra Sekar, DGM/Vigilance read out the Annual Report of the Vigilance Department. On this occasion, cultural programmes were presented befitting to the Vigilance Awareness week theme which was well received and appreciated by the audience. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held during the week long celebrations
