New Delhi, Nov 14: Central government has sanctioned the Ferozepur-Patti rail link in Punjab, reducing the distance between Ferozepur and Amritsar from 196 km to 100 km, which is strategically important due to its proximity to the Pakistan border.
The 25.72 km project, costing Rs 764.19 crore, will enhance regional mobility, connect Malwa and Majha regions, and facilitate the movement of defence personnel.
It is expected to benefit nearly 10 lakh people, generate 2.5 lakh jobs, and serve 2,500-3,500 daily passengers. Additionally, it will improve trade and agricultural access, link Amritsar and Ferozepur, and revive a historic route from the Partition.
