New Delhi, May 06: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved three railway projects worth ₹23,437 crore, expanding the Indian Railways network by 901 km across multiple states.
The approved projects include the Nagda–Mathura, Guntakal–Wadi, and Burhwal–Sitapur third and fourth line expansions, targeted for completion by 2030–31. These multi-tracking initiatives are expected to enhance connectivity for around 4,161 villages, benefiting a population of approximately 83 lakh.
The projects will improve access to key tourist destinations such as Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ranthambore National Park, Keoladeo National Park, and Vrindavan, among others.
Strategically important for freight movement, these routes handle commodities such as coal, foodgrains, cement, petroleum products, iron and steel, and fertilisers. The capacity augmentation is expected to support an additional freight load of 60 million tonnes per annum.
Planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the projects aim to improve multimodal connectivity, streamline operations, and reduce congestion across the rail network.
The expansion is also expected to lower logistics costs, reduce oil imports by 37 crore litres, and cut carbon emissions by 185 crore kg—equivalent to planting seven crore trees—supporting India’s broader sustainability goals.
Overall, the projects are set to enhance operational efficiency, service reliability, and seamless movement of passengers and goods across key economic corridors.
