New Delhi, Jan 18 Indian Railways have introduced Thirty Amrit Bharat Express trains have been operational since December 2023, with the addition of nine new services, expanding the network’s nationwide reach, the government said. The new routes connect the Northeast, eastern, central, western and southern regions, linking border areas, major cities and key pilgrimage centres.
Positioned as a major step towards strengthening India’s long-distance rail connectivity, the Amrit Bharat Express focuses on inclusivity and scale. Improved rail access is expected to support employment mobility, tourism, trade, and access to education and healthcare across regions.
With fares of approximately Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres and proportionately lower pricing for short and medium-distance journeys, the service follows a simple and transparent fare structure with no dynamic pricing
The fully non-AC trains comprise 11 General Class coaches, eight Sleeper Class coaches, a Pantry Car, and two Second Class–cum–Luggage–cum–Guard Vans with disabled-friendly compartments. Designed for the general public, the service aims to offer a modern, comfortable and high-quality travel experience in the non-AC segment.
With fares of around ₹500 per 1,000 kilometres and proportionately lower pricing for shorter journeys, the trains follow a transparent fare structure without dynamic pricing. By combining affordability, wide geographic coverage and passenger-centric design, the Amrit Bharat Express is emerging as a key enabler of economic integration and social cohesion, the government said.
