Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled the portal during the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan held at the Pusa Campus in New Delhi.

Developed jointly by the Ministry of Rural Development and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the portal provides a single digital platform to manage the complete internal audit process. Conceived by the Office of the Chief Controller of Accounts (CCA), the system supports both risk-based audits and compliance audits, replacing traditional paper-based audit mechanisms with a modern, AI-enabled digital framework.

The ministry said the initiative is a major step towards modernising internal audit practices by integrating audit planning, execution, reporting, compliance management, monitoring, and analytics into one unified ecosystem.

The new platform addresses longstanding challenges associated with conventional audit systems, including manual documentation, scattered records, delays in reporting, and limited monitoring capabilities. By creating a centralised digital repository, the portal enables authorities to monitor recurring audit observations, track compliance, assess risks, and improve decision-making over time.

Before its nationwide rollout, the ministry conducted extensive consultations with auditors, programme divisions, field officials, and other stakeholders. A pilot project was launched in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh on April 1, 2025, and following its successful implementation, the platform was gradually expanded. All major modules became fully operational from October 2025.

The portal now manages the entire audit lifecycle, including audit planning, engagement approvals, audit observations, action taken reports (ATRs), para settlement, and archival of records.

Officials believe the AI-powered platform will significantly improve the efficiency of internal audits by digitising audit workflows, automating report generation, enabling risk-based audit planning, and facilitating real-time monitoring of audit progress, thereby strengthening governance across rural development programmes.

Conclusion

The launch of the AI-enabled Rural Internal Audit Portal represents a major digital governance initiative by the Ministry of Rural Development. By integrating artificial intelligence with audit management, the government aims to improve transparency, reduce manual processes, strengthen compliance, and make rural development programmes more accountable and efficient.
