Gandhinagar, June 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured all four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat after its candidates were elected unopposed following the conclusion of the nomination withdrawal process on Thursday.

The Returning Officer and Secretary of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Chetan Pandya, formally declared Jitendra Kanzariya, Mansinh Parmar, Rajesh Shukla and Mukesh Rathwa elected to the Upper House after no other candidates remained in the contest.

The Election Commission of India had announced the biennial Rajya Sabha elections for four Gujarat seats earlier this month. Nominations were accepted until June 8, and all four BJP candidates filed valid nomination papers.

Following scrutiny on June 9, all nominations were found valid. Since the number of candidates matched the number of vacancies and no candidate withdrew from the race, the election was declared uncontested under Rajya Sabha election rules.

The newly elected members will replace outgoing Rajya Sabha MPs Ram Mokariya, Narhari Amin, Ramilaben Bara and Shaktisinh Gohil, whose terms conclude on June 21.

One of the most significant political outcomes of the election is the departure of Shaktisinh Gohil, which will leave the Congress without any representation from Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha.

The result was widely anticipated due to the BJP’s overwhelming dominance in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

In the 182-member Assembly, the BJP enjoys a commanding majority, making it virtually impossible for opposition parties to secure representation in the Rajya Sabha without sufficient legislative support.

The four elected leaders represent different social and organizational segments of the BJP’s political structure in Gujarat.

Jitendra Kanzariya is recognized for his long-standing organizational contributions within the BJP and has played an active role in strengthening the party’s grassroots network.

Mansinh Parmar has been closely associated with BJP activities in tribal and rural regions, contributing to the party’s outreach among rural communities.

Rajesh Shukla has held several political and organizational responsibilities within the BJP and has remained active in public affairs across the state.

Mukesh Rathwa, who hails from the tribal belt of eastern Gujarat, is expected to strengthen the party’s representation of Scheduled Tribe communities at the national level.

With their election, Gujarat’s representation in the Rajya Sabha will return to its full strength after the retirement of the outgoing members later this month.

The outcome further reinforces the BJP’s political dominance in Gujarat while highlighting the challenges faced by opposition parties in securing representation from the state in Parliament’s Upper House.

The unopposed election of all four BJP candidates to the Rajya Sabha reflects the party’s overwhelming strength in Gujarat’s political landscape. The victory not only ensures continued BJP dominance in the state’s parliamentary representation but also marks the end of Congress representation from Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha following the retirement of Shaktisinh Gohil.
