Bhubaneswar: Odisha will host the BRICS Technical Meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group in Puri from June 3 to 5, 2026, under India’s BRICS Presidency, highlighting the state’s growing global recognition in disaster preparedness and resilience management.

The three-day technical meeting will be held at the Taj Puri Resort and will bring together representatives, policymakers and disaster management experts from BRICS member nations and partner countries.

According to the government, delegates from Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the UAE and China, among others, are expected to participate in discussions on disaster management, resilience building and international cooperation.

Odisha was selected as the host state in recognition of its proactive and effective disaster management framework, particularly its internationally recognised cyclone preparedness, community-based early warning systems and large-scale evacuation strategies.

The meeting is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange among participating nations, promote collaboration on disaster risk reduction technologies and strengthen coordinated approaches towards climate resilience and emergency response.

Officials said hosting the conference offers Odisha an opportunity to showcase its disaster management capabilities on a global platform while reinforcing its international profile in resilience and emergency preparedness.

The BRICS DRR Working Group serves as a specialised forum where member nations and newer partner countries discuss policy coordination, technical cooperation and best practices in disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation.
