BRICS Positioned to Anchor Stability, Drive Resilience and Amplify Global South Voice
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday said BRICS is increasingly expected to play a constructive and stabilising role as global uncertainties, conflicts and economic challenges intensify.
Speaking at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at Bharat Mandapam, he noted that the world is witnessing rapid shifts in international relations, alongside pressures in trade, technology and climate.
Jaishankar emphasised that development concerns remain central to the grouping, with many countries facing challenges in energy, food, fertiliser and health security. He stressed the need for economic resilience, backed by reliable supply chains and diversified markets.
Calling climate change a pressing global priority, he urged progress based on equity and shared responsibilities. He also highlighted the importance of leveraging technology for inclusive growth and better governance.
On geopolitical tensions, the minister underscored the need for dialogue, diplomacy and stronger counter-terrorism cooperation, noting that peace and security remain critical to the global order.
As chair, India will facilitate open and constructive discussions to strengthen cooperation and deliver meaningful outcomes, he added.
