Prashant Pise Appointed India’s Next Ambassador to Oman

New Delhi, May 12: The Ministry of External Affairs has appointed Prashant Pise as India’s next Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, with the seasoned Indian Foreign Service officer expected to assume charge shortly.

A 1995-batch IFS officer, Pise will succeed Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas in Muscat. He currently serves as Additional Secretary (Emigration Policy and Welfare) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Pise brings over two decades of diplomatic experience across key global postings. His early assignments included Cairo (1997–2000) and Tripoli (2000–2004), followed by a stint as Deputy Secretary handling Eurasia and UN economic and social affairs.

He later served as Counsellor (Political) in Tokyo and Deputy High Commissioner to Mauritius. Between 2016 and 2019, he was India’s Ambassador to Tunisia before taking over as Deputy Director General at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

In recent years, Pise has held ambassadorial roles in Iraq (2021) and Slovenia (2024), reflecting his extensive experience across West Asia and Europe.

He has also played an active role in multilateral engagements, leading India’s delegation at the Abu Dhabi Dialogue in Dubai (2026) and chairing the High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility in New Delhi in 2025.

His appointment comes as India continues to deepen strategic, economic and diaspora ties with Oman, a key partner in the Gulf region.
