All You Need to Know About Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G Act

New Delhi, May 11: The Centre on Monday released a detailed set of FAQs on the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act, 2025, offering clarity on the implementation of the new rural employment framework aligned with the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

The Act, set to be rolled out nationwide from July 1, 2026, guarantees 125 days of unskilled wage employment annually to every eligible rural household, while also focusing on the creation of durable rural assets.

Replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the new legislation ensures a seamless transition, with ongoing works continuing and job cards remaining valid until new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued.

According to the FAQs, employment must be provided within 15 days of demand, failing which workers will be entitled to unemployment allowance. Wages will be paid through Direct Benefit Transfer within 15 days, with compensation for delays.

The framework mandates weekly or fortnightly wage payments, introduces face authentication-based attendance at worksites, and ensures basic facilities such as drinking water, shade, and first aid.

State governments will be required to notify schemes under the Act, while Gram Panchayats will play a central role in implementation, including registration, work allocation, and planning.

The funding pattern will vary, with a 90:10 Centre-state ratio for northeastern and Himalayan states, 60:40 for others, and full central funding for Union Territories without legislatures.

The government said the new framework aims to enhance livelihood security, improve rural incomes, and strengthen transparency through measures such as mandatory “Janata Boards” at worksites displaying project details.
