New Delhi, May 6, 2026: Ashu Shinghal has assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited. Prior to this role, he served as Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Limited.
Extensive Experience in Energy Sector
A Mechanical Engineering graduate from National Institute of Technology Silchar, Shinghal also holds an MBA in Operations Management. He joined GAIL as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1991 and rose to the position of Executive Director, handling key functions such as corporate strategy, planning, risk management, total quality management, and sustainability initiatives. He also served as the company’s Chief Risk Officer.
With over 35 years of experience in the hydrocarbon sector, Shinghal has worked extensively across large-scale project execution, including natural gas pipelines, petrochemicals, LNG, and city gas distribution.
Leadership Achievements at MGL
During his tenure at Mahanagar Gas Limited, Shinghal led the company to significant milestones, including doubling revenue and market capitalisation, achieving its highest-ever profit after tax, and recording strong growth in domestic PNG connections and CNG infrastructure.
He also drove diversification into emerging areas such as compressed bio gas, LNG transportation, and battery manufacturing through subsidiaries and joint ventures.
Strategic Roles and Board Positions
Shinghal has played a key role in strategic decision-making at GAIL and has been actively involved in stakeholder engagement with multilateral organisations, industry bodies, and think tanks.
He has also served as Chairman of Mahanagar LNG Private Limited and International Battery Company India Private Limited, and as Director on the boards of ONGC Petro Additions Limited and Talcher Fertilisers Limited.

With his extensive industry experience and leadership track record, Shinghal is expected to steer GAIL Gas Limited’s next phase of growth, focusing on expansion, sustainability, and strengthening India’s gas-based economy.
