New Delhi, April 18: Om Birla on Saturday said the seventh session of the Lok Sabha achieved 93% productivity, with nine government bills passed during the period.
The session, which commenced on January 28, comprised 31 sittings and lasted approximately 151 hours and 42 minutes, reflecting a high level of legislative activity.
Among key legislative discussions, the House debated the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and Delimitation Bill, 2026 over April 16–17. The debate spanned 21 hours and 27 minutes, with participation from 131 Members. However, the Constitution Amendment Bill was not passed.
The session began with the President’s Address on January 28, followed by a discussion on the Vote of Thanks lasting 2 hours and 46 minutes. The Union Budget 2026-2027 was presented on February 1 by Nirmala Sitharaman, with the general discussion extending for nearly 13 hours and involving 63 Members.
Key legislations passed during the session included amendments to industrial relations, insolvency and bankruptcy, transgender rights, and administrative reforms, along with the Finance Bill, 2026.
The Speaker also highlighted broader parliamentary activity, noting that 126 starred questions were answered orally, 326 matters were raised during Zero Hour, and 650 issues were discussed under Rule 377. Additionally, 73 committee reports were presented and 2,089 papers were laid on the Table of the House.
On the geopolitical front, Narendra Modi addressed the House on March 23 regarding the ongoing West Asia conflict and its implications for India.
The session also reflected linguistic diversity, with 181 statements delivered in 18 Indian languages, supported by simultaneous interpretation services.
