New Delhi, April 17: Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Friday said domestic LPG supply remains stable despite geopolitical disruptions, with over 50.5 lakh cylinders delivered across households on Thursday.
The government continues to push diversification in fuel consumption, with 4.68 lakh PNG connections gasified and 5.23 lakh new users added since March. Consumers are being encouraged to adopt alternative cooking solutions such as PNG and electric or induction cooktops, while states have been directed to expand PNG access for both residential and commercial segments.
Digital penetration in LPG services has strengthened significantly, with online bookings reaching nearly 98 per cent across the industry. Delivery authentication via DAC has risen to around 93 per cent, aimed at improving transparency and curbing leakages.
In light of developments around the Strait of Hormuz, the ministry said it is taking proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products. Refineries are operating at elevated capacity with adequate crude inventories, while domestic LPG production has been ramped up to support demand.
Public sector oil marketing companies have intensified compliance, penalising 255 LPG distributors and suspending 65 distributorships to enforce supply discipline.
The government reiterated that 100 per cent supply is being maintained for domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG segments. For commercial LPG, priority allocation has been extended to critical sectors including healthcare, education, pharmaceuticals, steel, and agriculture. Supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers has also been doubled compared to early March averages.
To manage demand efficiently, authorities have implemented rationalisation measures such as extending refill intervals to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural regions, alongside prioritised sectoral allocation. Alternative fuels like kerosene and coal have also been made available to ease pressure on LPG consumption.
Additionally, Coal India Limited and Singareni Collieries Company Limited have been directed to supply additional coal to states for distribution among small and medium consumers.
The ministry urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely on official communication, while promoting digital platforms for LPG bookings to streamline access and reduce physical dependency on distributors.
