Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas: LPG supply stable as digital bookings hit 95%, over 51 lakh cylinders delivered
New Delhi, April 6, 2026: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Sunday said LPG supplies remain stable across the country, with over 51 lakh domestic cylinders delivered on April 4 and no reports of dry-outs at distributorships.
Digital adoption has surged, with online LPG bookings rising to 95%, while Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based deliveries have increased sharply to 90%, up from 53% in February, ensuring transparency and preventing diversion.
Demand for smaller cylinders continues to grow, with over 90,000 units of 5-kg LPG cylinders sold in a single day, taking total sales since March 23 to around 6.6 lakh units. These cylinders are available without address proof, improving accessibility.
The ministry also highlighted rapid expansion of piped gas infrastructure, with 3.6 lakh PNG connections gasified and over 3.9 lakh new registrations recorded since March.
To maintain supply stability:
- Refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories
- Petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient
- Domestic LPG production has been ramped up
The government reiterated its appeal to citizens to avoid panic buying and unnecessary LPG bookings, and to use digital platforms instead of visiting distributors.
Households have been encouraged to adopt alternative cooking options such as PNG, induction, and electric cooktops, while conserving energy.
As part of ongoing measures, the Centre has:
- Increased LPG booking intervals to 25 days (urban) and up to 45 days (rural)
- Prioritised supply for domestic users, hospitals, and educational institutions
- Promoted alternative fuels like kerosene and coal to ease LPG demand
The Petroleum Secretary also reviewed the situation with states and UTs, directing them to prioritise essential LPG distribution and maintain strict vigilance against hoarding, diversion, and misinformation.
Authorities reaffirmed that LPG supply remains adequate and uninterrupted, including for migrant populations, and urged citizens to rely only on official information.
