Tehran, March 1 Iran State Media on Sunday confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in joint US-Israeli airstrikes.
Iran’s Fars News Agency, citing sources, reported that four of Khamenei’s relatives — including his daughter, grandchild and son-in-law — were also killed in the strikes.
US President Donald Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that Khamenei had been killed in coordinated operations carried out by the United States and Israel. In a strongly worded statement,
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated that there were “many signs” suggesting Khamenei was “no longer,” but stopped short of formally confirming his death. He also said that Khamenei’s compound had been destroyed in the strikes.
If confirmed, the reported killing of Khamenei — who has served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989 — would represent a seismic shift in the country’s political structure and could have far-reaching implications for regional stability.
