Washington, Feb 28: Donald Trump confirmed that the United States has initiated “major combat operations” in Iran, marking a sharp escalation in hostilities and heightening concerns of a broader regional conflict in the Middle East.
The US and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian targets on Saturday, significantly intensifying geopolitical tensions in a strategically critical and energy-sensitive region.
In an eight-minute video statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the objective of the operation is to eliminate imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime and safeguard American interests.
“We are destroying their missiles, razing their missile industry, and ensuring they cannot threaten the region or attack our forces,” Trump said, reiterating Washington’s long-standing commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
While confirming US military engagement, Trump did not explicitly reference joint coordination with Israel. However, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz acknowledged Israeli strikes and declared a nationwide state of emergency in response to the evolving security situation.
