Tel Aviv, Feb 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel, highlighted by his historic address to the Knesset—the first by an Indian Prime Minister—marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between India and Israel, underscoring strong public and political support in Israel for deepening ties with India.
Commenting on the visit, J S Weiss, founder and President of the Society of Jewish Scholars, noted in the Times of Israel that Israeli optimism regarding India-Israel relations spans the political spectrum, with all major Zionist parties favoring a robust strategic partnership. The visit is expected to further strengthen economic, technological, and strategic collaboration between the two countries.
During discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a framework to rebuild and expand trade links in the post-October 7 context. The initiative positions Israel as a key connector between India and Europe, promoting regional connectivity, stability, and shared prosperity.
The IMEC framework, along with existing partnerships such as I2U2—which brings together Israel, India, the United States, and the UAE—demonstrates the broader diplomatic and economic significance of India-Israel cooperation, offering opportunities for strategic diversification and trilateral engagement in the region.
Weiss emphasized that the growing alliance not only strengthens bilateral ties but also contributes to broader geopolitical stability, providing mutual benefits for India, Israel, and their partners, including the United States.
