New Delhi, Feb 24 :The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹275 per quintal increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of raw jute for the 2026–27 marketing season, reinforcing income support for jute farmers.
The MSP for raw jute (TD-3 grade) has been fixed at ₹5,925 per quintal, ensuring a margin of 61.8 per cent over the all-India weighted average cost of production. The pricing decision remains aligned with the government’s policy of fixing MSP at a minimum of 1.5 times the cost of production, as outlined in Budget 2018–19.
The revised MSP marks a ₹275 per quintal increase over the 2025–26 season. Since 2014–15, raw jute MSP has risen from ₹2,400 per quintal to ₹5,925 per quintal in 2026–27 — an increase of ₹3,525 per quintal, representing a 2.5-fold rise over the period.
Government procurement support has also expanded significantly. Between 2014–15 and 2025–26, total MSP payments to jute farmers amounted to ₹1,342 crore, compared with ₹441 crore during 2004–05 to 2013–14, reflecting stronger price support operations.
