New Delhi, Feb 20: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Saturday announced the inauguration of the first India office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) in New Delhi, underscoring Brazil’s intent to expand trade and investment engagement with India.
Apex is mandated to promote Brazilian goods and services globally and attract foreign investment into strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy. Lula noted that bilateral trade reached $15.2 billion in 2025, highlighting significant headroom for growth between the two major Global South economies.
Lula’s state visit to India is accompanied by Brazil’s largest-ever overseas business delegation, comprising more than 260 companies, 14 cabinet ministers and senior corporate leaders, reflecting trade and investment as the central pillar of engagement.
The visit comes amid shifting global trade dynamics, including tariff measures introduced by the United States under President Donald Trump, prompting Brazil to diversify markets and strengthen South-South partnerships.
During his visit, Lula participated in the India AI Impact Summit, signalling technology cooperation and digital public infrastructure as emerging pillars of India-Brazil relations.
