New Delhi, Feb 11: NITI Aayog has released four reports detailing scenarios towards achieving Net Zero by 2070 across transport, industry, power, and critical minerals sectors.
Key insights include: a rise in electricity’s share in the power sector from 21% in 2025 to 60% in 2070; a projected demand for key industrial materials such as steel, cement, and aluminium increasing by 4-6 times; and the potential for recycling to meet 20-25% of copper and graphite demands by mid-century.
Emphasis is placed on electrification, green hydrogen, and transitioning to clean fuels. NITI Aayog emphasizes urgency in implementing these strategies to realize India’s clean energy potential and economic growth.
