India, UK Ink Social Security Deal for Short-Term Workers

New Delhi/London, Feb 10: India and the UK signed a social security agreement on February 10, aimed at preventing double contributions for employees on temporary assignments of up to 36 months in each country.

The agreement, signed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and UK High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, is part of a broader trade deal established during the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) negotiations.

It will enhance employee mobility and maintain social security coverage while supporting India-UK partnerships in the service sector. The agreement facilitates Certificates of Coverage (CoC) to avoid double contributions and reinforces trade ties, potentially boosting bilateral trade by £25.5 billion.
