NLC India Limited, NIT Tiruchirappalli Ink MoA for Cutting-Edge Mining Research

Neyveli, Feb 09 NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli to strengthen industry–academia collaboration in applied research and technology development.

The MoA was exchanged at NLCIL’s Centre for Applied Research & Development (CARD) in Neyveli. The partnership is part of NLCIL’s broader R&D expansion strategy, under which the company has signed 13 MoAs with premier institutions including IISc, IITs, NITs and state universities.

The two-year project, titled “Development of New Material for Bucket Wheel Teeth and Its Life Improvement,” involves an investment of ₹50.73 lakh. It aims to develop advanced materials with improved wear and corrosion resistance to enhance the service life of critical lignite mining components, reduce downtime and optimise operational costs.

CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said R&D-driven innovation remains central to operational excellence, sustainability and technological self-reliance in mining and energy, aligning with India’s vision of ‘Vikshit Bharat’.

NLCIL said it will continue expanding structured industry–institution partnerships to drive practical, scalable technological solutions.
