Kuala Lumpur, Feb 8: Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India and Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia signed six key agreements on February 8, during Modi’s official visit to Kuala Lumpur, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations across cultural, economic, and strategic sectors.
The agreements, resulting from comprehensive discussions, enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations and cover trade, investment, semiconductors, defence, security, maritime cooperation, energy, renewable resources, tourism, and emerging technologies.
Key initiatives include the establishment of a Thiruvalluvar Centre at Universiti Malaya, scholarships promoting Tamil philosophy, and India’s first consulate in Malaysia to boost diplomatic relations.
The collaboration between the University of Cyberjaya and ITRA Jamnagar focuses on traditional medicine and research in Ayurveda. Additionally, Malaysia’s PayNet and NIPL agreed to create bilateral payment linkages via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to facilitate cost-effective remittance solutions.
Malaysia also completed the formalities to join the International Big Cat Alliance, focusing on biodiversity conservation. Recommendations from the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum were presented to further enhance trade and investment opportunities.
