Kuala Lumpur, Feb 8 Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unwavering commitment to peacekeeping and diplomatic efforts concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the situation in the Middle East during a joint press conference in Kuala Lumpur. Ibrahim expressed that their discussions reflected genuine friendship built on trust and understanding.
He emphasized the importance of their meeting in enhancing India-Malaysia relations, which have evolved into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since 2024, rooted in historical ties and expanding economic cooperation.
He outlined plans for deeper collaboration across various sectors, including trade, investment, and education, mentioning the exchange of 11 documents, including Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), beyond typical bilateral agreements. Ibrahim lauded the growth of trade, aspiring to exceed the $8.59 billion trade figure from 2025, and expressed optimism about collaboration in local currencies.
He highlighted the significance of educational ties, referencing India’s renowned educational institutions and their appeal to Malaysian students.
Ibrahim also underscored the importance of tourism and connectivity, indicating his support for India’s decision to open a consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. PM Modi’s visit is viewed as a vital move to strengthen the longstanding friendship between India and Malaysia, founded on shared values and aspirations for future collaboration.
