Kuala Lumpur, Feb 8 Declaring “no double standards and no compromise,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reaffirmed India’s strong stance against terrorism while announcing increased collaboration with Malaysia in the areas of maritime security, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Modi announced that economic ties would grow in the areas of energy, infrastructure, digital economy, semiconductors, healthcare, and food security, while defense engagement would be further enhanced.
After a CEO Forum meeting, he emphasized the increasing momentum in trade and investment and emphasized that economic transformation would be driven by strategic trust.
Modi referred to Malaysia’s 3 million-person Indian diaspora as a “living bridge” and said policies like a Social Security Agreement, free e-visas, and UPI-based digital payments would facilitate travel and strengthen interpersonal relationships.
PM Modi said both parties agreed to speed up the review of the ASEAN-India trade agreement, reaffirming India’s commitment to ASEAN centrality and Indo-Pacific stability. His first international trip of 2026, the visit highlights the growing strategic partnership between India and Malaysia.
