New Delhi, Jan 17: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met with British Columbia Premier David Eby to enhance India-Canada relations and explore economic opportunities.
They discussed strengthening trade partnerships in areas like critical minerals, manufacturing, clean energy, technology, education, defense, and innovation. Goyal plans to lead a trade and investment delegation to Canada to initiate negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
British Columbia is a key trade partner, with bilateral trade reaching $2.1 billion in 2024.
The region hosts 12,000 tech firms and has a rapidly expanding life sciences sector. Eby also referenced recent successful trade missions to Asia, which have led to significant projects. India is concurrently negotiating trade agreements with 14 countries, aiming for balanced trade dealings.
