Muscat, Dec 18 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Muscat, Oman, on December 17, marking the final leg of his three-nation visit.
He was warmly welcomed by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, at the airport, where a Guard of Honour was presented as part of his ceremonial reception.
This visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman and follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to India in December 2023.
During his stay, PM Modi is set to engage in comprehensive talks with the Sultan, addressing key areas such as trade, investment, energy cooperation, defense, security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders will also discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Arun Kumar Chatterjee from the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the enduring India-Oman relationship, emphasizing historical maritime trade and people-to-people connections.
PM Modi will address business leaders at a forum aimed at strengthening commercial ties and will also interact with the Indian community in Oman, recognizing their contribution to both bilateral relations and Oman’s economic growth. This visit aims to further solidify the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Oman, focusing on energy security, maritime cooperation, and regional stability.
Prior to arriving in Oman after a two-day visit to Ethiopia, PM Modi received Ethiopia’s highest civilian honor, the ‘Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,’ in a ceremony that underscored ongoing political and economic cooperation between the two nations. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali personally bid farewell to PM Modi, showcasing the strength of their bilateral relations.
