Addis Ababa, Dec 16 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his first State Visit to Ethiopia on December 16, following a two-day visit to Jordan, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ethiopia since 2011.
Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. The visit emphasizes the strategic importance of India-Ethiopia relations, focusing on discussions about political engagement, development cooperation, trade, investment, and people-to-people relations.
Modi aims to bolster the partnership for mutual benefit and will meet the Indian diaspora, addressing a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament. His itinerary reflects India’s commitment to deepen South-South cooperation.
The visit comes after Modi’s “productive” meetings in Jordan, which focused on areas including renewable energy and cultural exchanges, aiming to establish pathways for increased collaboration and prosperity for both nations.
Modi’s arrival in Addis Ababa coincided with the city’s preparations, adorned with welcome hoardings and Indian flags, highlighting the significance of the visit.
