New Delhi, Dec 05 Delhi Airport on Friday issued a fresh passenger advisory announcing the cancellation of all IndiGo domestic flights departing from the airport until midnight, as the airline continues to grapple with one of its most severe operational disruptions in recent years.
In a statement shared on X, the airport said :
“IndiGo domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport on 5th December 2025 are cancelled till midnight (23:59 hours). Operations for all other carriers remain as scheduled.”
The airport assured passengers that on-ground teams are working closely with IndiGo and other partners to minimise inconvenience. Travellers have been asked to check the latest flight status on the airport’s official website and directly with the airline before leaving for the airport.
Massive Disruptions, Over 500 Cancellations
The advisory follows widespread chaos across IndiGo’s network. More than 500 flights were cancelled on Thursday, with several more delayed. In November alone, the airline recorded 1,232 cancellations, highlighting the scale of ongoing issues.
An earlier advisory had warned travellers about potential delays, citing “operational challenges affecting certain domestic services.”
Government Steps In
Amid escalating disruptions, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu chaired an emergency review meeting with senior officials and IndiGo’s top management. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is closely monitoring the situation and has heightened oversight.
The Minister directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to provide full assistance to affected passengers and instructed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to monitor airfares to prevent sudden price hikes.
Why IndiGo Is Struggling
The DGCA also held a detailed meeting with IndiGo to seek clarity over the spike in cancellations.
IndiGo attributed the disruptions to:
- Implementation of Phase II of revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms
- Crew scheduling challenges
- Shortage of staff due to underestimated requirements under the new system
- Seasonal winter fog and congestion
The updated FDTL rules, implemented after court directives, aim to improve pilot safety and reduce fatigue but have caused temporary strain on crew availability.
More Disruptions Likely
IndiGo warned that cancellations may continue for another two to three days as stabilisation efforts progress. From December 8, the airline will temporarily cut flight frequency to reduce passenger inconvenience.
The carrier has also requested temporary relaxation of specific FDTL regulations for A320 aircraft until February 10, 2026, and assured authorities that full normalcy will be restored by then.
