OIL Successfully Achieves Safe Capping of Kharsang Well 76

Offshore drilling operations by Oil India in the Andaman basin

Duliajan, 24 Nov 2025: Oil India Limited (OIL) has successfully capped Well KSG#76 at the Kharsang Oil Field, following a blowout on 30 October 2025 that resulted in uncontrolled gas release.

The Crisis Management Team (CMT) of OIL, with assistance from experts from Cudd Well Control, USA, and GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd, commenced operations on 1 November 2025 to safely remove the damaged Blowout Preventer (BOP).

This operation was carried out with precision and coordination, leading to the installation of a pre-positioned capping stack that redirected gas flow securely, effectively halting the discharge from the well.

The successful execution of this operation underscores OIL’s engineering expertise, meticulous planning, and collaborative efforts among global specialists and local teams. Moving forward, OIL will adhere to its established operational protocols for further well control phases.

Acknowledgment was given to the efforts of the CMT, Cudd Well Control, GeoEnpro, and local field teams, as well as gratitude expressed to the Arunachal Pradesh administration, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), and the local community for their support. OIL commits to maintaining safe and sustainable practices in its operations.
