New Delhi, Nov 17: Indian public sector oil companies have secured a historic deal to import 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LPG from the US Gulf Coast for the contract year 2026, according to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
This marks the first structured contract for US LPG in the Indian market. The deal is significant, representing nearly 10% of India’s annual LPG imports, and was characterized by strategic discussions with major US producers.
The minister highlighted the government’s efforts under PM Modi to provide affordable LPG, noting that despite soaring global prices, the Ujjwala scheme ensured consumers received cylinders at substantially lower costs, with the government absorbing over Rs 40,000 crore to mitigate the impact of rising LPG prices.
