Tianjin, Aug 31 India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.
The two leaders reviewed the progress of India-China ties since their last meeting in Russia’s Kazan in 2024 and reaffirmed that the two countries were development partners and not rivals.
They agreed to further promote people-to-people exchanges and agreed to support the work of the two Special Representatives on the boundary question. PM Modi underlined the importance of peace and tranquility on the border areas for continued development of bilateral relations. They also emphasized the need to strengthen people-to-people ties through direct flights and visa facilitation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the two leaders acknowledged the successful disengagement last year and the maintenance of peace and tranquility along the border areas. They also emphasized the need to expand bilateral trade and investment ties and reduce trade deficits.
