New Delhi, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day of the Nation was celebrated at NLCIL with great fervor and enthusiasm. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Township Administration Office premises in the presence of Functional Directors& Chief Vigilance Officer and inaugurated the celebrations.

Later, he hoisted the National Flag at the Bharathi Stadium. He also inspected the ceremonial parade and accepted the Guard of Honour.

In his address, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and all the freedom fighters who laid down their lives in India’s freedom struggle by recalling their selfless sacrifices by dedicating their lives to the cause of the Nation’s independence.

Speaking on the Energy capacities of the Nation, he said that the total Installed power generation capacity of the Nation had increased to 482 GW as against 1.36 GW in 1947 at the time of independence. He said NLCIL was an integral part of this journey since 1956 for more than six decades. NLCIL was planning to expand the total power generation capacity to more than 20GW and Mining capacity to more than 100 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) by 2030.

It was a matter of pride that NLCIL had delivered excellent financial results for the year 2023-24, with Highest Profit Before Tax in last 10 years with 62% growth and 48% growth in Profit After Tax, compared to previous financial year respectively. Also, NLCIL has declared the financial results for the Q1 of FY 2024-25 and a Profit After Tax of Rs.566.69 Cr as against Rs.413.57 Cr in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 37.02%, he said.

Prasanna Kumar outlined the long term plans of NLCIL including generating power through coal-based Power Plants in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts of Odisha and renewable energy projects at Rajasthan (810 MW) and Khavda, Gujarat (600 MW).

He congratulated the entire NLCIL team for securing the Machhakata Coal Mine in the commercial coal mine auction which has a total coal reserve of 1377 Million Tonnes with a peak rated production capacity of 30 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) and will be one of the top five largest coal mines in the country. Also, a new lignite based Thermal Power Project at Neyveli, the TPS-II 2nd Expansion is in the pipeline, he informed. Further, an MoU with Rajasthan RajyaVidyutUtpadan Nigam Ltd. (RVUNL) for forming a Joint Venture to set up around 500 MW Lignite based Power Station and 2000 MW Solar Power Plant was also signed.

In line with India’s Green Hydrogen Mission, NLCIL is also preparing to establish a pilot-scale project for producing green hydrogen in line with India’s Green Hydrogen Mission which involves utilizing a 4 MW solar input to power the electrolyser, showcasing NLCIL’s commitment to eco-friendly energy solutions.He also elaborated the proposals for establishing a 1000 MW solar power project in Assam, developing hydro-power projects, pumped storage systems, assessing usage of Biomass pellets in Thermal Power Stations, installing floating solar as part of new initiatives for safeguarding the environment. NLCIL has received a AAA rating from CRISIL indicating the strong business profile of the company, he said. Project implementation is another key aspect where NLCIL has taken multiple initiatives to achieve its objectives.

Prasanna Kumar listed out the awards won by NLCIL including Human Capital awards, the GEEF Global Environment Award 2024, the PSU award for the year 2023 and the Corporate Social Responsibility Champion Award among others.NLCIL has also spent Rs.47.36 Crores towards CSR during the FY 2023-24, besides welfare schemes, he informed.

Hethen went on to give a pleasant news to the students studying in all the schools within Neyveli Township by making an announcement that NLCIL would be providing free bus facility to all school children from Neyveli Arch Gate and Mandarakuppam up to their respective schools. Nearly 1000 school children who commute to their schools daily from Neyveli Arch Gate and Mandarakuppam to their schools in Neyveli township will benefit from this scheme.

The senior most worker of NLCIL Smt. S. Chandrika,Attendant Special Grade-A, Medical Branch, along with her spouse, R. Sanjeevi,were honoured.  Tricycles were presented to differently abled persons (Divyangs).

Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines and P&P Addl. Charge), Samir Swarup, Director (HR), M. Venkatachalam, Director (Power), Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance) and AppakannuGovindarajan, Chief Vigilance Officer, NLCIL, participated in the function and presented long service awards, loyal service awards and special awards to the employees and students.

NLCIL’s employees, representatives of recognized Trade Unions, Associations representing Engineers, Officers and Supervisors, SC/ST Employees’ Welfare Federation, ST Employees’ Welfare Association, OBC Employees’ Welfare Association, WIPS forum and the residents of Neyveli were present in Bharathi Stadium to witness the celebrations. The colourful cultural programmes presented by school children were appreciated by one and all.

 To mark the occasion, the Members of the Neyveli Ladies Club distributed fruits to the in-patients of the NLCIL General Hospital and wished them a speedy recovery.
