New Delhi, April 15: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reaffirmed that domestic LPG supply remains stable, with over 1.1 lakh 5-kg cylinders sold on a single day, taking total sales to 14.3 lakh units since March 23, reflecting increased demand among migrant workers and vulnerable groups.
The daily average sale of 5-kg cylinders has risen significantly from 77,000 in February to approximately 1.1 lakh, indicating a shift in consumption patterns amid the ongoing geopolitical situation.
Digital adoption in LPG services has also strengthened, with online bookings accounting for 98% of total transactions. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based deliveries have reached around 92%, enhancing transparency and curbing diversion at the distributor level.
Parallel growth has been observed in piped natural gas (PNG) adoption, with around 4.4 lakh connections activated since March 2026 and an additional 4.88 lakh registrations recorded. Over 33,000 consumers have voluntarily surrendered LPG connections via the MYPNGD platform, indicating a gradual transition toward alternative fuel sources.
Commercial LPG supply has remained robust, with sales equivalent to over 4.5 lakh 19-kg cylinders in a single day, taking cumulative volumes beyond 69.28 lakh units since March 14. A coordination mechanism involving Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is actively managing distribution alongside state authorities.
Enforcement actions have intensified to curb hoarding and black marketing, with penalties imposed on 232 LPG distributorships and 56 suspended so far. Public sector oil companies continue surprise inspections and compliance checks nationwide.
The government also highlighted that all refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories, ensuring sufficient availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Domestic LPG production has been ramped up to support rising demand.
Citizens have been advised to avoid panic buying, rely on official communication, and use digital booking platforms. The extension of increased commercial LPG allocation to multiple industrial sectors further reflects efforts to maintain supply stability across both domestic and industrial segments.
