New Delhi, Jan 18: Thirty Amrit Bharat Express trains became operational in December 2023, with nine new services launched, enhancing nationwide connectivity across various regions including the Northeast, eastern, central, western, and southern India.
This initiative aims to strengthen India’s long-distance rail network, emphasizing inclusivity and scalability, as indicated by an official statement. The Amrit Bharat Express trains are non-AC, featuring 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, a Pantry Car, and 2 Second Class-cum-Luggage-cum-Guard Vans designed to be accessible for disabled passengers.
The travel experience is intended to be modern, comfortable, and high-quality catering to the general public. Fares are approximately Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometers with a transparent pricing structure that avoids dynamic pricing. This service is crucial for facilitating travel for employment, education, and family needs, contributing to affordable long-distance connectivity and promoting economic integration and social cohesion across India.
