Prime Minister Modi to Consult Economists, Experts Before Budget 2026–27

New Delhi, Dec 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet top economists and experts to gather insights ahead of the Union Budget 2026-27 on February 1.

This meeting includes key figures from NITI Aayog and aims to discuss the current economic climate amid geopolitical challenges. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has conducted several consultations with various stakeholders, including trade unions, to prepare for the budget.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has suggested a four-pronged fiscal strategy focusing on debt stability, fiscal transparency, revenue mobilization, and expenditure efficiency, aiming to maintain the Central debt around 54.5% of GDP and a fiscal deficit of 4.2% in FY27 for sustained growth.
